Crossfire Sweeps Summer Tourneys - Wins COPA

Redmond, WA - The Crossfire Premier '91 Club coached by Dick McCormick accomplished a rare feat this weekend by completing a summer sweep of soccer tournaments with another championship - the Copa Challenge, Gold Division. It was by far the toughest tournament of the year for this squad and capped back-to-back tournament weekends where the team played 10 games in 11 days.

In the championship game Crossfire survived an extremely tough challenge by an excellent FC Marauders-Drazic team 1-0. It was a defensive battle the entire way, and Crossfire's defense came up with some huge saves and turnaround plays - just when they needed them most. The scoreless game lasted until about the midway point of the second half, when Crossfire finally connected.

In the morning semi-final game, Crossfire beat a good Shooting Stars club 4-1. Four different Crossfire players scored in that one.

In Saturday's game, Crossfire beat HSA Eagles 8-0, helped by six different players scoring in the contest.

Crossfire started the tourney on Thursday, August 1, with a tough win over the same FC Marauders squad they would face again in the finals. In this first contest, Crossfire prevailed 3-1. Crossfire came back the next day and had to work hard to beat an equally tough NWN Nemesis squad. That game remained scoreless most of the way. Crossfire scored their first goal with about 7 minutes remaining and followed that one with a quick break-away strike, then held the lead to come away with a 2-0 win.

Crossfire wraps up this summer tournament season with a very impressive 25-0 record, five tournament wins, and a combined 125-14 goals margin, including 15 shut-outs.
