Dec 14, 2002
Kent, WA - GU11 Crossfire-McCormick, Champions of the District III GU12 Gold Platinum League, finished league play in fine form today, beating a very good Kent Spirit team 4-1. It was one of the first soccer games played at the new Kent East Hill Sports Complex, and the young Crossfire squad looked right at home on the new turf.
They scored early on a beautiful cross/header combination, and followed shortly after with a successful PK to go up 2-0 before the first half was half over. Crossfire continued applying pressure, adding a third goal off a power shot from the right center top of the box to make it 3-0 at half.
Kent Spirit has a great team but was unable to get in a rhythm for most of the contest. Crossfire added a fourth goal in the second half and yielded their only goal to Kent Spirit with about 5 minutes remaining.
With the win, Crossfire-McCormick finishes league play with a 10-2-1 record (first place). They scored the most goals in the division (31), allowed the third fewest (13) and had the largest goals differential (18).
Crossfire-McCormick wishes to thank all the great teams in this league for the extremely tough competition all season. Best wishes to all in upcoming State Cup.
